About North Carolina foreclosure sales

Most North Carolina mortgage foreclosures are non-judicial: the lender's substitute trustee asks the clerk of superior court for a hearing (N.C.G.S. 45-21.16), and once the clerk authorizes the sale the notice is posted at the courthouse and published in a local newspaper. Sales can be held on any weekday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (N.C.G.S. 45-21.23).

Every foreclosure and tax foreclosure sale is followed by a 10-day upset bid period (N.C.G.S. 45-21.27), so a sale-day high bid can still be raised. Tax foreclosures are brought by county tax collectors under N.C.G.S. 105-374 or 105-375.

Our North Carolina data comes from substitute-trustee law firms' published sale lists and official county tax-foreclosure pages. It does not cover every trustee yet; more coming. New to auctions? Read the investor FAQ.
