About Ohio sheriff sales
Ohio foreclosures are judicial. After the court of common pleas enters judgment, the county sheriff appraises the property, advertises the sale for three weeks and sells it at public auction, now mostly online on the state's official sheriff sale website. At the first sale of a mortgage foreclosure the minimum bid is two-thirds of the appraised value (R.C. 2329.20), and the sale is final only after the court confirms it.
Delinquent tax foreclosures are also sold by the sheriff, usually starting at the taxes and costs owed. Property that fails to sell twice can be forfeited to the state and offered later at a county auditor forfeited land sale.
Our Ohio data comes from sale lists published by county sheriffs. It does not cover every county yet; more coming. New to auctions? Read the investor FAQ.
