How foreclosure sales work in St. Louis County

Most Minnesota mortgage foreclosures are by advertisement. After the notice of sale runs for six weeks, the St. Louis County Sheriff auctions the property; the lender usually bids first, and other bidders pay in certified funds at the sale.

The winning bidder gets a sheriff's certificate of sale, and the owner usually has six months to redeem. Sales are often postponed, so confirm the date with the sheriff shortly before the sale.

Our Minnesota data comes from official sheriff sale lists. It does not yet include every county; more coming.

This is general information, not legal, financial or investment advice. Talk to a Minnesota real-estate attorney before you bid.

How does a Minnesota foreclosure reach a sale?
