About California foreclosure sales

Most California foreclosures are non-judicial trustee sales under a deed of trust (Civ. Code 2924). After a notice of default and at least three months, the notice of sale is recorded, posted and published at least 20 days before the auction. There is no redemption after the sale, though eligible tenant buyers and bidders may get a post-sale window on 1-4 unit homes.

County treasurer-tax collectors also sell tax-defaulted property at public auctions, mostly online.

Our California data comes from a trustee's published pending-sales report. It does not cover every sale yet; more coming. New to auctions? Read the investor FAQ.
