How foreclosure sales work in Snohomish County

Washington has two main kinds of public property auction. Sheriff sales follow a court judgment and are held by the Snohomish County Sheriff; the buyer gets only the debtor's interest, subject to existing liens. Treasurer tax foreclosure sales are held once a year for property with taxes three years delinquent.

Sheriff sales can carry a redemption period of eight months to one year. Tax foreclosure auctions are usually held online and need a deposit before you can bid. Sales are often postponed, so confirm the date with the sheriff or treasurer shortly before the sale.

Our Washington data comes from official county sale lists. It does not yet include trustee sales or every county, so some sales are not listed; more coming.

This is general information, not legal, financial or investment advice. Talk to a Washington real-estate attorney before you bid.
